Why Your Fast Website Feels Slow: Practical Fixes for LCP, CLS, and INP

Multi-device responsive layout testing

You can build the most visually compelling website in your industry, but if it takes four seconds to load or shifts around while a user tries to tap a button, visitors bounce.

Google’s Core Web Vitals directly influence organic ranking positions and user engagement. Here is how frontend engineers diagnose and resolve the three most critical web vital metrics.

### 1. Largest Contentful Paint (LCP): Accelerating Hero Elements

LCP measures how long it takes for the largest visual block above the fold—usually a hero banner, product photo, or headline block—to render completely. The benchmark target is under 2.5 seconds.

The Common Pitfall: Lazy-loading the hero image.

The Fix: Never use `loading="lazy"` on above-the-fold assets. Instead, preload the critical asset inside your document `<head>`:

`html

<link rel="preload" as="image" href="hero-banner.webp" type="image/webp" />
